SOIL STABILIZATION

HOW LIME STABILIZES SOIL

For over five decades, lime has been utilized to improve and stabilize roadway soils throughout the state of Texas. From residential streets to the most demanding highways and airfields, lime has proven to be the best solution for solving the problems of the high plasticity clay soils and inadequate base materials.

Construction sites in Texas often encounter the challenge of wet, weak, fine grain soil, which can result in muddy conditions. When sites have muddy conditions it makes for difficult working conditions which can ultimately run projects over budget because of extended timelines due to access being difficult for construction vehicles.

In these cases it’s difficult to reach the soil moisture and compaction requirements established by the project civil or geotechnical engineers. Reaching these requirements is essential. Without them the wet, poorly compacted soil makes for poor pavement support and embankment. This not only imposes risk to a budget, but to safety standards.

THREE MAJOR SOIL IMPROVEMENTS:

SOIL DRYING – REDUCING THE SOIL MOISTURE CONTENT.
SOIL MODIFICATION – REDUCING SOIL PLASTICITY, AIDING COMPACTION AND CREATING A SOLID WORKING PLATFORM.
SOIL STABILIZATION – INCREASING LONG TERM STRENGTH AND REDUCING SWELL POTENTIAL.
